Austin Dog Rescue is made up purely of volunteers. Each dog is sheltered within a home in the Austin area. As such, there is no physical shelter to visit the dog at. If you think you may be interested in a particular dog now or in the future, please fill out an application form. People with approved application forms are prioritized over people who haven’t yet applied.
Do you like to pet tummies and scratch behind ears?
Thea is a German Shepherd/labrador mix with a sweet, calm disposition, and she's estimated to be between 2 and 5 years old. If you want to pet her for hours, she'll allow it. She may even refuse to stand up until you pet her tummy again...a few times...maybe one more.
Thea's great with kids and adults, and she's good with other dogs. At her current house, she mostly ignores the other younger dogs, but she will play with them. When she plays, she has a deep, growly bark and can be loud. She's been boarded with other dogs and got along great with the dogs and the people.
She is crate trained and hasn't had any accidents in the house. Thea has separation anxiety when her people leave the house and she's crated. She's found a way to break out of her metal crate, so she'll need a heavy duty crate in her forever home. Her foster mom is working with her on gradually increasing the time she spends in the crate with no one home.
Thea likes walks and is good on a leash, and she's great at waiting until her foster mom is ready for a walk. She's patient and has wonderful impulse control.
If you're looking for a calm, sweet dog, then Thea might be the girl for you!
UPDATE: Thea is doing great with being in her crate when her people leave! Her favorite afternoon napping spot is now her foster brother's crate. She has also made a lot of progress on her separation anxiety, and she's calm when her people leave the house.
