Austin Dog Rescue is made up purely of volunteers. Each dog is sheltered within a home in the Austin area. As such, there is no physical shelter to visit the dog at. If you think you may be interested in a particular dog now or in the future, please fill out an application form. People with approved application forms are prioritized over people who haven’t yet applied.
Oreo is a sweet, happy, energetic border collie mix. At about 7 months old, he is still very much a puppy. He is looking for a new home with people who are active and excited to continue his training. He currently loves to play fetch (though he’s still working on the bringing the ball back part of that game) and we think he would be a great run buddy once he’s old enough to go on runs. He is proving to be quite the athlete and is very eager to please, so he could potentially be a good agility dog. Regular exercise will be important for him to get his energy out.
Oreo loves to play with other dogs, though he is still working on learning his puppy manners. He could do very well in a home with another dog who is older and doesn’t mind the puppy energy. We would not recommend him in a home with cats or small children.
Oreo loves his humans - he will want to be with you as much as possible and we’re pretty sure he would hug you if he could. He can be a little anxious in new environments, so continuing to socialize him and expose him to new people, places and things will be important.
Oreo is potty trained & crate trained, but he’s not quite old enough to be able to make it all day without a potty break. His new owners will need to continue with his crate training, and we recommend taking him through basic puppy training and leash training. He is very treat motivated and has been responding very well to training with positive reinforcement.
If Oreo sounds like he’s the pup you’re looking for, fill out an application today!
