Description

Are you looking for more than a pretty face… then may I introduce you to Ada!

This lovely lady is looking for a family who appreciates her loyal nature, watchful eye, and beautiful appearance. We believe that Ada may be a mix of German Shepherd and Anatolian Shepherd based off of appearance and personality. Both of these breeds are working breeds that are known for deep loyalty and protective/guardian like instincts.

Ada is very loving and loyal girl to her person/people. She will follow you from room to room and lay at your feet (or on the couch with you) all day long. She’s a medium energy type gal that can enjoy a nice walk and few minutes of play with an engaging toy, or chasing some small critter up a tree but she’s not needing long games of fetch or to jog miles. She LOVES belly rubs. And she’s prone to greet you with a “hug” after a long (or short) absence.

Ada is happy to help all day in the garden or patrol the fence line when you are nearby but she doesn’t really love to be outdoors for long without you. She’s generally a dog that prefers to be with her people wherever they are.

Ada’s house manners are really very very good. She’s never had an accident indoors. She’s not prone to chewing. She is opportunistic about (human) food but isn’t super food driven overall… she’ll leave kibble in her bowl (but she doesn’t like to share food with other dogs). She is beautifully crate trained and is most relaxed in her crate if you need to leave her alone. She does LOVE the opportunity to curl up on the sofa or bed so if you are a “no dogs on the furniture” household she’s probably not the girl for you. And Ada would love it if your job allowed you to be with her more than you are away.

Another fun fact, Ada would prefer to be your only child. She feels she’s enough to fill up every part of your heart! While Ada generally does ok with large male dogs, she’s not a huge fan of female or small dogs, and she’s not real excited about sharing food with other dogs. None of these things are major issues but we feel that she will do best in a home without other dogs. And she doesn’t seem to miss their company we at all as she really is a human focused dog.

Also, Ada has a moderate to high prey drive so she enjoys patrolling for squirrels and would do best in a home without small dogs, cats or other small critters.

Ada has lived in a home with children and while she seems to enjoy them she isn’t always fond of the “extra people” that having young playmates and friends over can bring to her household. So an adult household is preferred but a situation where grandkids visited, etc would likely be fine.

Lastly there are a few more things you should know if you are to be Ada’s human:

  • Ada is fairly aloof and watchful with strangers. She takes a few moments to warm up and even then she’ll be watchful. She is not aggressive at all, she is just not a Golden Retriever… she loves HER people and doesn’t need to be loved on by everyone else.
  • Ada isn’t one to bark a lot but she will alert if someone or something new is around. This is a breed trait and CANNOT be trained out of her. If you want a dog to let you know when someone new is near she’s your girl. I repeat, she is not a nuisance barker… she barks to let you know something has changed in the environment.
  • Ada’s coat is long and beautiful. It is silky soft. She’s quite the looker! She also sheds A LOT. She will require regular brushing (several times a week), and/or seasonal grooming sessions to get her coat blown out when she’s shedding most heavily.

So if you think you are up to the task of sharing your heart and home with this beauty consider submitting an application today!
